What is ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum)?

ONVIF is a global open standard that allows IP based CCTV equipment from different manufacturers to communicate with each other.

An example of ONVIF in action would be if you used a NVR from our Diamond line but IPCs from our Emerald line. If you wanted to be able to view the Emerald IPC on the Diamond NVR, both devices would need to support ONVIF.

ONVIF is broken into profiles that allow various functions from basic streaming to AI metadata. The three profiles below are what you may find in some of our equipment.

Profile S - This is the most basic of profiles. This profile supports Video, Audio, and PTZ control. All of our equipment at ENS supports this profile.

Profile T - This profile supports H.265, Motion, and 2 way audio.

Profile G - This profile allows for audio to be recorded if both the NVR and IPC support it.

It is very important to understand that when you need to use ONVIF that you might not retain all the features if you weren't mixing equipment.

Some common features you might lose
- Motion recording (unless both NVR and IPC support profile T)
- LPR data (a workaround for this is to install a SD card directly in the LPR and pull data from there)
- AI features
- Line specific features
