How Time Modification on a Recorder Can Lead to Loss of Playback Video
Problem Description
- Device: Firmware Version: 1.3.8.57300B230320.D28.U1(16A82Z)
- Issue Observed: Recorded video is missing for the period from April 13, 2023, to May 8, 2023. Videos before and after this time period are available.
Cause of the Problem
- The system time on the DVR was manually changed from May 8, 2023, to April 13, 2023, and then changed back to May 8, 2023.
- When the device’s system time is rolled back to a previous date, any recorded data between the "current date" and the "modified past date" will be deleted.

Solution
- This issue arises due to the manual operation of changing the system time on the DVR. When the time is modified, the NVR displays a warning that altering the system time may cause recorded data loss.
- Users should be cautious and avoid changing the system time to prevent the deletion of recorded videos.

Analysis Steps
- Log Review: Checking the DVR logs revealed that the system time was modified on two occasions—April 12 and May 8. These changes in the log correspond to the start and end times of the missing videos.
- Conclusion: The missing video data resulted from the user manually changing the DVR’s system time.

Summary
- Changing the recorder’s system time to a past date will delete the recorded data between the current date and the modified date.
- Changing the recorder’s system time to a future date will create a gap in the recorded data between the time before the change and the time after the change.
- Modifying the system time is a sensitive operation. The system will display a warning message before each time change, indicating that changing the system time may lead to data loss. Users need to be aware of this and proceed with caution.
